Petra, the series protagonist arrives in Barbelo, a new international city state, calling on survivors from all over the world. she is searching for her adoptive father, using her power of Psychometry, which allows her to retrieve memories through touch.

Being one to act first and think later, she lands herself in trouble. Barbelo's reformed judicial system finds her power too useful to waste and she is placed under the watchful eye of her new handler, Scout. together they are sent to investigate the ruined city of Beirut.
